Studio guitarist and original Wirechoir member Mike Anthony came and played thru some tunes with us at the last Wirechoir rehearsal. Mike was playing with Tony Rizzi in the early 70's when Wirechoir was just getting started, a few years before they did the first album. Mike read thru some charts with us and then gave an interview about his time with Tony Rizzi and the studio scene in Los Angeles during the 60's, 70's and 80's. It was an honor to have him come down.

We just finished 2 days of recording the main tracks for our debut album at Grandma's Warehouse Studio in Echo Park. We are recording most of the album live and have some very special guests artists playing with us including three members of the original Wirechoir, Tim May, Grant Geissman, Tom Ranier, and Pete Christlieb. Some of the other guests on the album include Frank Potenza, Larry Koonse, Ron Escheté, Putter Smith, John Pisano, John Stowell, Steve Trovato, and Joe Bagg. I will keep everyone updated with the album and about the CD release party that we are going to have. We are also filming the entire process. Here are some photos from the sessions:

Wirechoir is the reinvention of Tony Rizzi's famous 5 guitar ensemble. The group plays harmonized arrangements of jazz and swing tunes based on the solos of jazz guitarist, Charlie Chrisitan and jazz saxophonist, Charlie Parker solos. Tony Rizzi's original group formed in the 70's and was made up of studio musicians that got together to rehearse, record, and perform these amazing and difficult tunes. Although the group went thru several line up changes throughout it’s tenure, some of the orginal guitarists that played in the group were Tony Rizzi, Jimmy Wylbe, Tim May, Grant Geissman, and Mike Rosati with guest soloists such as Barney Kessel and Joe Pass. Today's group continues the tradition and rehearses every sunday in Los Angeles at Carter's Coyote Pass Studios. The group consists of some of the finest guitar players in the area that include Sid Jacobs, Ken Rosser, Joe Jewel, Brandon Bernstein, Jimmy Cheesman, Willis Clow, Eric Jensen, Matt Ritvo, Putter Smith, John Atkinson, and leader Terry Carter.
Some of the venuses that they have performed and recorded at include The Board Stage in Santa Monica, The Alvas Showroom in San Pedro, and Carter’s Coytoe Pass Studios in Los Angeles. You can see clips of the group at www.terrycarter.com/wirechoir and become a fan at www.facebook.com/wirechoir. Some of their tunes include Rose’s Loom, Carvin’ The Bird, Relaxin’ at Camarillo, Round Midnight, Four, I Surrender, Yardbird Suite, 7 Come 11, Four Brothers, and Lemon Cake.
