Here's what a gift of music can bring to a child:
I met Elsa Araiza in the Summer of 2008 when she enrolled in my Beginning Guitar Class, Music 650 at Los Angeles Trade Tech College. She was new to guitar but over the 6 week class her talents started to shine thru. As the class was coming to an end it was time to award a new guitar to the student that demonstated the most desire, effort, and talent. I decided to give away a guitar because I didn't want to see a student's talent wasted wanted because he/she didn't have an instrument to play at home. Elsa was the winner of that guitar for her class. Then I received this amazing email:
Hello Mr. Carter.
My name is Elsa Araiza, you may remember me or you may not. I used to be in your
summer program guitar class at LATTC. I guess I was considered your best student
in that class since you awarded my hard work with an electric Squire guitar by
Fender. I hope you do remember me Mr.Carter because I would appreciate your
presence in my music concert. At the moment I am attending an all arts high
school and were having this classical music concert. You may have heard of the
school Central Los Angeles HS #9 for the Visual and Performing Arts. Its going
to be really great, I will be performing in a classical guitar ensemble and this
is also sort of like a fundraiser for our music academy and the ticket is only $5.
You can also visit our website http://central-lausd-ca.schoolloop.com/ It would
be a real pleasure to have you there. And you can see how much my knowledge of
music has improved. You inspired me to continue playing guitar and it would be
awesome for you to come and see this wonderful event (: Please email me back for
more information, it would really mean a lot to me.
